It's hard to believe it's been almost a week already. It's been so busy. Kim and I actually got about 14 of the 19 top things to do in Sydney (Rough Guide) done.
What was yesterday? Oh yeah, the Olympic Park. We headed out there early since it takes about 45min including a transfer to the special 1 stop Olympic Park line. The first place we headed was teh Aquatic Center, so Kim could have her moment of glory in the pool. An Olympic Park is basically filled with huge impressive structures looking for a continued use. The Aquatic Center was quite busy however, it seems the schools have an 8 week program for swimming lessons near the end of their school year. They have quite an ingenious system too, the bathing caps indicate what level the swimmer is at.
After that we wandered around the park looking at more buildings and generally being tourists. It was a weekday and pretty dead though, so after photographing a few buildings and the Flame we decided to head back to Sydney. It looked like there were a lot of really cool bke trails, but we were just too tired.
After a break we headed over to the Sydney Aquarium. I'd wanted to check it out to compare to the Boston Aquarium, however both are really drastically different. The Platypus display at the Aquarium blew the one at the Zoo out of the water (heh). But seriously, it was so much better. There were also some "Oceanariums" which are floating tanks that I assume use the harbour water to some degree, and are open to the sky. The seals were nappnig but the sharks (different tank) were active. Then once we were successful in finding Nemo, we headed out for dinner.
After a nice meal at a Wagamama we headed over to our now old friend Circular Quay to get some night shots of the Opera House and the Bridge. These came out really well I think thanks to remembering a tripod and fill-flash. I'm looking foward to checking these out full-sized. Even the iPod screen isn't quite right for actually checking photos.
On that note: While slow, the iPod has been great for dumping photos at the end of the day, and the cord for my Lumix also works on Kim's Olympus, so I can back her photos up as well.
So, that was yesterday. Today we hit the Blue Mountains... but that's another story ;-)
The Wedding is tomorrow!! Time for a good rest.
