So I'll agree that the last two Family Guy episodes were not the best. They both kind of trailed on inconsistently, and looked more like a few great bits filled in with a plot. That said I'll take a new episode of Family Guy over almost anything else [save maybe a new Daily Show] any day.
But when you go ahead and do something like smacking Peter Griffin in the middle of the classic "Take on Me" video by A-Ha, well that's just genius! I almost feel sorry for people who don't get the reference because it goes on so long. That said you can go on over to MTV.com [requires IE - Boo!] and have a look at the full video. It was pretty revolutionary at the time, but just remember that time was 80's synth-pop heaven :) Still, if you didn't love/hate this kind of music when it was fresh, you might not love/hate it as much as you'll need to for it to be funny.
I'm not sure why, but all of a sudden there has been a jump in the number of new keyboard sightings out there on the web. On one end of the scale you have the Das Keyboard, a stealth-black totally blank keyboard designed for ubergeeks. On the other end of the scale you have the Optimus, a completely customizable keyboard that has a tiny lcd screen under each key. Now tell me what's for ubergeeks! As long as the feel of the keyboard is alright, I know the Optimus will be a huge seller. It's just one of those crazy "why did no one ever think of that" kind of ideas. You mean I maybe get to spend hours designing characters for my keyboard layout? Where do I sign up!
Well it must be that time again. A new Harry Potter novel is about to hit the shelves and the media blitz knows no bounds. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be the sixth book in the series, and though I haven't read hardly a thing about it, I think I know how it goes. That is to say the HP books really aren't about plot surprises as much as they are character development. Anyway if the Pope [Ratzinger!] thinks they're a bad idea, maybe I'll pick up a copy.
Who said the Catholic church was out of touch!?
Oh yay! Yet one more tool to let you know just how f-cked you are in the event of a nuclear attack. Now if you really didn't know a nuclear blast was a bad thing then it's time to go back to school. The Nuclear Weapon Effects Calculator does a pretty nice job of showing just how big a bomb needs to be to really mess up your commute. Now Eric Meyer has taken it to the next level [read: used Google Maps] to give us the High-Yield Detonation Effects Simulator.
Don't get me wrong I love little tools like this, and I greatly admire Eric's MapsAPI prowess, but if the mainstream media ever got a hold of something like this it would be a field-day of fear. And really... what is the likelihood?
In the meantime maybe you should check out a nice website that covers California. Because [damn!], that is actually scary.
