So it has been a week+ now with the PSP and I have to say it's everything I'd hoped for. To start I should say I did get a perfect-condition unit: there were no dead pixels; no loose parts; the battery lasts a long time.
To put it mildly, the games are amazing! I don't even think the Gretzky game that I was forced to buy is that bad, although probably only because I don't know any better not being a hockey game fan. Not since the TurboGraphix 16 have the graphics on a handheld been so close to its console equivelant. I've also tried out the ad hoc wireless and although it could be a bit easier to start and find games, once connected it was seemless and fun.
Okay so the games are great, and that would normally be enough - but there's more! I can now carry around all the images from [sub]Pixel.ca with me where ever I go. I can also carry around some cool webcomics like QUestionable Content, plus some music, plus Video. Video.. Ah there's the key! If you were lucky as I was to get a 512MB card before launch, you can easily fit around 2 hours of video. I'm actually finding I want my morning commute to be longer, just so I can watch a full episode of something.
I have owned almost every single version of every handheld gaming device up to the current generation, but this is the PSP is the only buy I'll be making in this generation of handhelds. I feel sorry for the other guys.
If I had one hope/complaint it would be for SONY to get even smarter with the next version, drop proprietary formats, add a HD, and kick even more butt.
Heya John, long time no chat. I still had the link to your site so I thought I would drop a visit. I was wanting to know more about the PSP, and seeing it sitting there is very interesting :)
I hope everything is going well for you.
