revenge of the favicon

Okay maybe it should be "resurgence", but that wouldn't be as cool a title. If you're not familiar with them, favicons are small 16x16 images that appear right before the http:// in the address bar of your browser. I'd still say most sites don't have them, including this one ( but both my others do), but for something so small they have a pretty ig impact when they do appear.

There is just something "neat" about seeing that little image that really helps tie the webpage you're looking at to the browser, somehow making everything seem more connected. My other favorite thing is that over time this tiny version of the site desgin really becomes a key element to that sites brand. I use the Sidebar in Firefox to display my bookmarks, and without even having to read the titles I can quickly get to any favorite site using these little leave-behinds.

There has been an upsurge in the cataloging/reviewing/appreiation of favicons lately, and I think Firefox has a lot to do with it because this upstart browser handles them a lot more effectively than IE. I say this because favicons have been around forever almost, but only recently have they started to really get noticed.
